As a parent and being vegan I felt St. Albans needed a cafe that was 100% vegan, child-friendly and provided visitors and residents with something different to everywhere else around. Fortunately I was in a place and time in my life to make my ambition reality.
The cafe was created with love, sweat and tears, and as environmentally caring as possible and became the green kitchen in October 2014…
So, almost 4 years into my journey and whilst it’s hard work, I love my cafe and my customers, many of whom have become friends; We have regulars for Saturday breakfast, ones that pop in when passing to pick up some cake, and visitors from far and wide. Many find us via social media or the “Happy Cow” app – a useful tool for sourcing veggie friendly eateries.
Once a month, and sometimes twice we have an evening supper night, with a theme. Whether it is a seasonal link; Hogmanay or Chinese New Year, or flavours from another country, we try and provide dishes that are tasty and different.

“If you want gluten-free or dairy-free cakes then Heather can take this completely in her stride. If you know you should eat less meat or want a cafe that shares the same veggie principles as you, I think you will enjoy The Green Kitchen. It is a very welcome addition to the area.”Becky AlexanderThe Herts Advertiser
“This cafe has a really relaxed atmosphere about it. The staff are friendly and the food is lovely. You do have to wait slightly longer for the food but it is all freshly cooked to order, so be patient. ”Customertripadvisor.co.uk
